The Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies welcomes you to join Dr. Thomas DeFrantz and Dr. Fred Moten in a groundbreaking performance-symposium, engaging critical dialogues in sound and motion in the context of black performance tradition.Dr. DeFrantz (Duke University, Dance and African-American Studies) is author of Dancing Revelations: Alvin Ailey’s Embodiment of African American Culture. He is Founding Artistic Director of SLIPPAGE: Performance|Culture|Technology, a multi-disciplinary arts collective.Dr. Fred Moten (Duke University, English) is a renowned poet and scholar, and author of B Jenkins and In the Break: The Aesthetics of the Black Radical Tradition.
